Sector policies
Societe Generale has put sector policies in place that define the norms and standards the Group applies to sectors considered to be potentially sensitive from an environmental or social (E&S) perspective.
Societe Generale has defined sector policies for 10 sectors. For each of these sectors, these policies describe the main risks of human rights or environmental damage and specify the criteria for evaluating clients or transactions carried out with actors players in these sectors, as well as – in certain cases – exclusion criteria.
These sector policies are aligned with the Group’s environmental and social General Principles, which define the general framework applicable to these issues.
These E&S General Principles make reference to the Equator Principles, to which the Group has been a signatory since 2007. Adopted by 94 financial institutions, the Equator Principles consist of a framework for managing the risks associated with project finance (generally with a total capital cost of USD 10 million or more) and define methods for identifying, assessing and managing the E&S impacts related to projects.
